Sep26/19_10-Florence: Firenze Duomo (with 20 photos)

Located about 275 kilometres (171 mi) northwest of Rome. Train in 1h 45 mins.

Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto.

Florence was a centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of that era. It is considered by many academics[5] to have been the birthplace of the Renaissance. From 1865 to 1871 the city served as the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
